During the winter of 2011, the East Ender opened their doors in the food-centric community of Portland, Maine. Inspired by the Maine state slogan – “The way life should be” – the East Ender’s bar and kitchen creates delectable yet accessible food, direct from farm to table. At the East Ender, you will find a non-pretentious take on classic American fare, enjoy local brews or a house-infused cocktail while relaxing in a comfortable, informal, down-to-earth setting.
Drawing from Maine’s burgeoning farming community, Co-owners Meg Schroeter and Mitch Gerow pride themselves on sourcing and supporting local farmers and fishermen, and creatively using every part of every product that comes through the East Ender kitchen. Mitch grew up in Saratoga Springs, New York, and cut his teeth in some of the finest restaurants in New England. Meg – a native Mainer – grew up working in top restaurants of coastal Maine, Boston, and London. Combining their unique talents, vision, and love of food, the East Ender embodies the true spirit of Maine’s food culture and community.
